João Marreiros
João Marreiros, originally from Portugal, is a sommelier with CMS Introductory, WSET Level 3, ASI Certification 1, and a mixology certification from the European Bartender School. With a background in hospitality across kitchen, bar, and front of house, he has also run catering and wine events businesses. Now Auckland Area Manager for Negociants NZ, he was awarded 2nd place in New Zealand Sommelier of Year 2024.
Giulio Barducci
Originally from Italy, Giulio Barducci is the executive chef and wine director at his restaurant, Toast & Oak in Queenstown. With a career that spans Michelin-starred establishments in Italy and leading restaurants in New Zealand, Giulio has a deep passion for both culinary arts and wine service. At Toast & Oak, he has curated an extensive wine list exceeding 300 selections. Guilio is CMS Certified Sommelier.
Bruno Arias
Bruno is a Chilean sommelier based in New Zealand, currently working at Jervois Steak House in Herne Bay, Auckland. Bruno has travelled to over 16 countries and lived in Chile, Honduras, Italy, Ireland and New Zealand. He is always seeking experiences that connect people through food and wine. Bruno holds the WSET Level 3 and is currently preparing for the CMS Certified Sommelier exam in September.
Karan Patyal
As a certified sommelier with a passion for wine, Karan has worked in Retail and as a sommelier in restaurants and on cruise ships. Karan holds the WSET Level 3 and CMS Certified. With his existing foundation in wine expertise, he is eager to dive deeper into advanced topics, network with like-minded professionals, and gain hands-on experience.
ASI Bootcamp Experience
ASI is launching the 5th edition of its intensive training camp for sommeliers. It aims to reach a broader group - not only the top sommeliers from each country and to place a greater emphasis on education - not only for competition preparation.
Masterclasses will be conducted by some of the world’s leading experts, including Best Sommeliers of the World, Masters of Wine (MW) and Master Sommeliers (MS).
Some of the ASI’s Partners will be present during the Bootcamp, and we intend to create educational content related to each of them to help our Sommeliers gain a deeper understanding of their products.
Through masterclasses and tastings, we aim to provide participating sommeliers with 2.5 full days of
top-level training and knowledge.
