New Zealand Sommeliers at ASI Bootcamp - Kuala Lumpur

ASI bootcamp in Asia & Oceania is an intensive training camp for junior sommeliers to build and refine their skills and excite them about our hospitality world.

NZ Sommeliers and Wine Professionals will host training sessions culminating in the NZ Sommelier and Junior Sommelier of the Year Competition on Sunday 31 July 2022. Top candidates will be invited to travel to Malaysia to attend this unique event and opportunity to build skills and talent.

We are delighted to recommend to ASI that Jessica Wood, Angela Allan and Suraj GC represent the New Zealand Sommeliers and Wine Professionals at the ASI Association of Sommeliers International Boot Camp in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 11- 14, 2022.

Here is some information about our recommended participants from New Zealand - 

Jessica Wood

Jessica currently works as a General Manager | Head Sommelier | Wine Buyer at Noble Rot Wine Bar and is based in Wellington. She has completed her WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and Court of Master Sommeliers certification and is currently pursuing the Level 4 Diploma in Wines. 

Originally from UK, Jessica has enjoyed an extensive and varied career in hospitality and management spanning over 20 years. Through her travels and work experiences around the world she has become more in tune with wine and beverages and has been drawn closer to the wine industry since arriving in New Zealand in 2015. In January 2023, she became a Head Sommelier and wine buyer for Noble Rot. 

Suraj GC

Suraj currently works as a Sommelier at Park Hyatt, Auckland. He is completed his WSET Level 2 Wine & Spirits with merit and is currently working towards being a Certified Sommelier, Court of Master Sommeliers. 

Born in raised in Nepal, Suraj been in New Zealand for 12 years working in Hospitality. His favorite grape variety is the Pinot Noir and believes in being in a top venue in Auckland where he can showcase the very best New Zealand can offer. 

Angela Allan

Angela is currently working at The Culprit, Auckland. She is the Sommelier and Beverage Director. She is a Certified Sommelier (Court of Master Sommeliers) and has completed her WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and the French Wine Scholar. 

She is originally from Canada and has been in New Zealand for 10 years. Angela's personal favorite is Sparkling Wine and in addition to her time as a Sommelier, she has had the opportunity to do harvest for some amazing wineries over the last two years in Central Otago.
