ASI Certification 1 2025

The ASI Certification 1 tests the broad general knowledge of a Sommelier and their competencies

relating to products/recipes/viticulture/vinification/grape varieties/service etiquette/wine tasting

protocols/stock management/customer care/food pairing/ brands, etc.

FORMAT

The assessment is a written exam. The questions are tailored to an introductory level and cover a wide

spectrum of topics such as global wine knowledge, service, tasting vocabulary and methodology,

professional sommelier skills, maps, etc. The questions come in a multiple-choice format, to allow for a

fair and broad assessment of each candidate’s competency.

The pass rate required is 65%.

 

For people doing the CMS in September, this would be a very useful Pre-Test.
