ASI Best Sommelier Asia Oceania

The World’s Best Sommelier Contest has been in existence since 1969. The contest facilitates exchanges between numerous hotel and restaurant professionals, encourages healthy competition between entrants, motivates them to perfect their skills, and helps widen knowledge of the sommelier profession in the public at large. The competition takes place every three years in one of the ASI member countries that has been authorized to host the event by the ASI.

Association of Sommeliers International (ASI) Asia Oceania Best Sommelier Regional Competition 2022 in Tokyo.

Competitors come from Australia, Japan, Hong Kong & China, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and New Zealand. This was previously held in Japan in 2018. This competition includes blind tasting, practical service assessments such as Precision Pouring for a magnum of Champagne. Problem solving. Theory assessment on wine, beverages and related topics.

Each competitor must compete in a language that is not their mother-tongue. There are 3 approved languages: English, French and Spanish. 

NZ Sommeliers and Wine Professionals will be represented by Andrea Martinisi and Marek Przyborek.

7 November 2022   - 10 November 2022 

Andrea Martinisi will also represent New Zealand at the ASI World Best Sommelier Competition in France 2023.
