New Zealand Young Sommelier of the Year

This award recognises excellence in New Zealand wine knowledge for outstanding candidates working in any hospitality business. We encourage entries from candidates who wish to develop their wine skills and progress to more senior positions in their chosen field.

1.30pm | Three Finalist will be announced

1.30pm  Service and selling techniques:

  • Table One: Open wine (under cork) at the table for guest judges (5 minutes)
  • Table Two:  Food and Wine Pairing and Ageing potential of New Zealand Wines

Terms & Conditions

  • Must be aged under 27 years on July 1 2019
  • Must have worked or be working in a restaurant for 12 months
  • Must a member of the New Zealand Sommeliers and Wine Professionals Association

Prize: A two day trip to visit the vineyards of the North Canterbury Wine Region before 30 November 2019.

Return airfares and accommodation for the winner and a friend sponsored by Black EstateGreystone and Pegasus Bay, leading Vineyards of the North Canterbury Wine Region.

The prize includes a winery tour, dinner and private tutored tasting with Dom Maxwell of Greystone and New Zealand Winemaker of the Year.  Two night's accommodation at Black Estate's B & B on the Home vineyard and lunch for two at the Black Estate Restaurant.
